LE SENS DE LA MARCHE
Scenographed exhibition – DAME festival – Scène Nationale de Chambéry André Malraux – February/March 2023
"For Aristotle, Nietzsche or Rousseau, the only valid thoughts came while walking. The unfolding of the step and the landscape were necessary for the development of thought.
Eric Vernhes' visual and sound installations explore the link between body movement and psyche based on images from three wanderings: An anonymous family's vacation from the 70s, a walk in the forest and an urban excursion. The fossil light of super8 films is decomposed and recomposed to generate a new visual and musical score, the rustling of the forest solicits the latent memories of a walker to create an improbable narration and an ordinary urban landscape gives a glimpse of an idealized synthetic nature. Of these wanderings, that of the visitor to the exhibition is the most important. He will think about it for a long time."
Having worked for a long time for the live scene, the fact that the exhibition takes place in a theater is for me an important and determining element in its conception. The elements presented are small narrative scenographies rather than scattered works.
All the elements of the exhibition generate sound. No listening with headphones but a general atmosphere where noise, speech, electroacoustic music are mixed.
