A text resides in the computer and is displayed on a screen. However, it remains indecipherable, because the software continually invents new logographic symbols to represent each word. It generates them, permutes them, and thus continually creates a new writing system, a new code for representing thought. The \u201csilent words\u201d device is part of the \u201ctypewriters\u201d series (like the \u201ctypewriter 1\u201d installation ). These are single machines that express themselves for themselves, by themselves , in themselves , without interaction with the observer. They continually produce writing according to logographic, syllabic or alphabetic systems whose operation remains hermetic and mysterious. The goal of the \u201ctypewriters\u201d is to explore what makes up the \u201cbreath\u201d of writing, to experiment with the deployment of this gesture that gives meaning, by its very movement, to humans, and moves time forward. \"Les mots silencieux\" is more particularly part of a research that explores the relationship between gesture and sign, as other works explore the relationship between music and language. I will cite as a reference Brion Gysin, in whose pictorial research tended to rid writing of the signifier and semantics in order to invent an imaginative and silent thought. \u00a0Un texte r\u00e9side dans l\u2019ordinateur et est affich\u00e9 sur un \u00e9cran. Toutefois, il reste ind\u00e9chiffrable, car le logiciel invente continuellement de nouveaux symboles logographiques pour repr\u00e9senter chaque mot. Il les g\u00e9n\u00e8re, les permute, et cr\u00e9e donc continuellement un nouveau syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9criture, un nouveau code de repr\u00e9sentation de la pens\u00e9e.\u00a0Le dispositif \u00ab\u00a0mots silencieux\u00a0\u00bb fait partie de la s\u00e9rie des \u00ab\u00a0machines \u00e0 \u00e9crire\u00a0\u00bb ( comme l\u2019installation <\/span>\u00ab\u00a0machine \u00e0 \u00e9crire 1\u00a0\u00bb<\/a>). Ce sont des machines c\u00e9libataires qui s\u2019expriment pour elles-m\u00eames, par elles-m\u00eames<\/span>, en\u00a0elles-m\u00eames<\/span>, sans interaction avec l\u2019observateur. Continuellement, elle produisent de l\u2019\u00e9criture selon des syst\u00e8mes logographiques, syllabiques ou alphab\u00e9tiques dont le fonctionnement reste herm\u00e9tique et myst\u00e9rieux. Le but des \u00ab\u00a0machines \u00e0 \u00e9crire\u00a0\u00bb est d\u2019explorer ce qui fait \u00ab\u00a0le souffle\u00a0\u00bb de l\u2019\u00e9criture, d\u2019exp\u00e9rimenter le d\u00e9ploiement de ce geste qui donne sens, par son mouvement lui m\u00eame, \u00e0 l\u2019humain, et fait avancer le temps. \u00ab Les mots silencieux\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019inscrit plus particuli\u00e8rement dans une recherche qui explore la relation du geste au signe, comme d\u2019autres oeuvres explorent la relation de la musique au langage. Je citerai comme r\u00e9f\u00e9rence Brion Gysin, chez qui les recherches picturales tendaient a d\u00e9barrasser l\u2019\u00e9criture du signifiant et de la s\u00e9mantique pour inventer une pens\u00e9e imag\u00e9e et silencieuse.
