Carolingian Moments
Wood, electronics, computer, printer, video projector. 90*90*110cmIn collaboration with Jean-Pierre Balpe and Samuel Szoniecky as part of the exhibition "Europe before Europe, the Carolingians" at the Abbey of Saint Riquier. from June 26 to September 29, 2014.
The installation takes the form of a closed matt black cube, an intriguing block in itself that seems to float above the ground and can evoke something like a primitive altar. Its upper surface is sensitive, when a visitor touches it, it emits a soft, variable light, and a sound fragment evoking an atmosphere that is both religious and mysterious, then it projects an instantly generated text. This text, immediately printed, comes out of the cube, dated, timed, it is available to the visitor who can take it with him. Each new action on the upper surface of the cube, causes the same effects. The texts produced, and projected, which evoke moments of Carolingian life, are in fact unique and therefore all original, the whole constituting something like an endless book on Carolingian life.
